It could cost Oakland schools $38 million to fix lead contamination

Pharmaceuticals are changing the microbiome in the human body

[…]the proportion (27%) of non-antibiotic ‘human targeted drugs’ (HTDs) that were also found to be active was not anticipated, according to the scientists. “The number of unrelated drugs that hit gut microbes as collateral damage was surprising,” said study senior author Professor Peer Bork. “Especially since we show that the actual number is likely to be even higher. ” Possible Underestimate There are two reasons for this potential underestimate, suggested the scientists. Firstly, concentrations of the drugs in the ileum and colon may be different to plasma levels, which is where they are typically measured. “More human-targeted drugs would inhibit […]

Wi-fi and cellphones increase pregnant women’s risk of a miscarriage by almost 50%, study says

A recent study published in the journal Scientific Reports found that the use of wi-fi and cellphones increases a pregnant women’s risk of suffering a miscarriage by nearly 50 percent. “Magnetic field (MF) non-ionizing radiation, which is also given off by power lines and cell towers, has been found in past studies to put a stress on the body, leading to genetic damage that can cause pregnant women to miscarry.” MF radiation, which everyone is exposed to, to some extent, has been linked to cancer in other studies. (The WHO has been recommending that its effects on pregnancies be studied.) RELATED STORY: […]

Canadian testing shows glyphosate contamination in popular food products

Independent testing commissioned by the Coalition for Action on Toxics has found glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup, in common children’s lunch foods and snacks sold in Canada. The foods affected were Cheerios, Tim Hortons Timbits and bagels, Catelli multigrain spaghetti and Fontaine Santé hummus. (Chickpea and wheat-based products were among the highest contaminated likely because they are often sprayed with glyphosate weeks before harvest.) “In a much larger study conducted by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, glyphosate was found in more than 30 percent of food products tested, and in some cases was above Health Canada’s “safe” limits of contamination. How WHOLE Turmeric heals the damaged brain

[…]curcumin alone is not enough to explain the healing power of turmeric as a whole plant. The study found that a little known, fat-soluble component within turmeric – Ar-tumerone – may make “a promising candidate to support regeneration in neurologic disease.” Titled, “Aromatic-turmerone induces neural stem cell proliferation in vitro and in vivo,” German researchers evaluated the effects of this turmeric-derived compound on neural stem cells (NSCs) – the subgroup of brain cells capable of continuous self-renewal required for brain repair. The study found that when brain cells were exposed to ar-tumerone, neural stem cells increased in number through enhanced […]

Are Burnt Toast and Roasted Potatoes Cancerous?

[…]The risk comes from the compound known as acrylamide. During animal studies in 2002, researchers found that high levels of acrylamide led to an increased risk in cancer. While these links have yet to be proven in human studies experts aren’t sure they will ever be able to provide the needed data since exposing people to acrylamide, just to test the outcome, wouldn’t be safe or allowed. “Acrylamide is what makes bread and potatoes turn golden in color when fried, baked, toasted or roasted. The compound is formed from simple sugars, such as glucose, reacting with an amino acid, known […]

First the DEA, now the FDA is trying to ban kratom: don’t let them

[…]chronic pain, depression, anxiety, opioid withdrawal, PTSD and others. Nearly all of them have found major relief from their symptoms through kratom with minimal to no side effects. If kratom were banned, many of them would be forced to resort to prescription pills or live in pain. Kratom is a unique medicinal solution that has been used for thousands of years and, unlike the prescription and non-prescription opioids it is often compared to, it does not cause respiratory depression. This is because kratom’s primary alkaloid, mitragynine, binds to delta opioid receptors rather than the mu receptors. So while it stimulates the […]

He does, after all, have a HUGE financial (multi-million) stake in the Zika spray companies.) It seems unlikely, […]
