A green sea turtle was found and rescued with a 3-foot-long spear stuck in its neck, according to o nonprofit Turtle Hospital in Marathon, Florida. The sub-adult turtle, which weighed 150-pounds and is named Splinter, was taken into surgery so the spear could be removed. Bette Zirkelbach, Turtle Hospital manager, told CNN affiliate WPEC that X-rays revealed that the large stick traversed more than half of the innocent turtle’s body. A Pennsylvania state senator was busted last Tuesday on child porn charges, the state Attorney General announced. Republican Sen. Mike Folmer, 63, was charged with sexual abuse of children, possession of child pornography, and criminal use of a communication facility after law enforcement found images of child pornography on Folmer’s cellphone when they executed a search warrant at his Lebanon home. Officials with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children said they received a tip that a user of the site Tumblr uploaded an image of child pornography to the site, which prompted them to investigate further. Scientists at Yale and other universities came to some surprising findings when they studied a group of genetically modified mosquitoes released in Brazil. A biotech company (Oxitec) released tens of millions of male mosquitoes over the course of two years. They were genetically modified to produce sterile offspring. The company wanted to prevent the spread of diseases like malaria and Zika by culling the mosquito population.
